Nancy Wilson (jazz singer) was born to Olden Wilson, an ironworker from Chillicothe on 20 February 1937. She was the daughter of Lillian Ryan worked as household helper. Nancy is the eldest out of 6 siblings. The father of Nancy was a musician and would play records at home. This was a major influence in her early years. In her early years, she already had a strong sense of who she was as well as what she wanted to do. The choir at church helped develop her talent. The first album she recorded was in 1956 with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. The band was on tour with her between 1956 and 1958. Nancy made her debut record with Dot Records while in the group. Cannonball suggested that she make the move in New York and go to The Big Town to continue her career. The singer was brought in to sing at The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx and there was a place where Adderley's agent had seen her. The singer made her debut in 1960 with a single after he obtained the contract with Capitol records. Guess Who Saw Today. Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. In the era of Adderley Wilson's leadership, Wilson started focusing on R&B however she soon switched to jazz and torch music. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley collaborated in 1962, which allowed her to climb in the chart. In 1963, she had the biggest success through Tell Me the Truth. She was offered a job at the New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's premier nightclub.
