Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson
Nancy Wilson, a jazz musician and a three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker who was employed for a lengthy period as a housekeeper. Nancy was the oldest of six kids. The passion for music that her father had as well as the music he played at home had a major influence on Nancy when she was a little girl. At just 4 years old, she was certain that she was going to be a star in the singing world. She developed her talent by her involvement in the choir at church. After high school, she began to appear often in Skyline Melodies. She was fifteen when she won the television talent show. The nightclubs where she was a regular performer, she began working at age fifteen. When she graduated from high school, aged 17 Nancy was enrolled for a term at Ohio's Central State College now Central State University before leaving and becoming a professional performer. In 1956, she recorded her debut album along with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. They toured together throughout 1956 until 1958. Nancy began her recording career with Dot Records in 1956, when she was part of the band. Cannonball suggested that she relocate to New York and go to The Big Town to further her career. Within a couple of weeks after, her manager heard her singing and hired her. The singer made her debut in the year 1960, with a single after he obtained an agreement with Capitol records.
