The Jazz performer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born on the 20th of February 1937 in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio. Her parents were ironworker Olden Wilson and the former Lillian Ryan who worked as a housekeeper. Nancy was the first out of six kids. Her father was a music lover and played records with his children at home. This had a great influence on her as a child. Nancy knew that she was going to be a musician at the age of four years old and developed her talent by singing in the choir at church. Following her win in a talent show in a television show around the age of 15, she started to regularly appear in Skyline Melodies, while still in high school. Around the same time when she was working, she began performing in nightclubs. Nancy was 17 when she graduated highschool. After enrolling at Ohio Central State College - today Central State University - for only one semester Nancy went on to become an experienced performer. In 1956 she made her debut album in Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. They performed together from 1956 through 1958. Nancy started recording with Dot Records in 1956, when she was part of the band. Cannonball advised her to relocate into New York and go to The Big Town to continue her professional career. Within one month, she got a gig singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her, and she was signed. A contract was formalized by Capitol Records in the year 1960. The year was 1960 when she debuted with the song. Guess Who I Stopped Today. Her albums were a hit and Capitol released 5 Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Adderley helped her move away from R&B and to focus on music that was more jazz-based and torch songs. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley and their 1962 collaboration made her a star. The singer had her breakout song Tell Me the Truth by 1963. In the following year, she was invited to perform at the New York's Coconut Grove, the most sought-after nightclub in America.
