Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson, a ironworker, as well as Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy was the first child of six. Nancy's father was an avid music lover and played records at home. This had a great influence in her early years. They performed with her throughout 1956 and 1957. Nancy started recording with Dot Records in 1956, when she was part of the band. Cannonball Adderley urged her to go to New York in order to increase her fame. She visited The Big Town, New York in 1959. Adderley's Agent heard her at The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she then signed her contract. within a month of her arrival to New York, she was in the city. The contract was signed the label Capitol records in 1960, and she made her debut that year by releasing the single. Guess who saw today. Capitol released five Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. In the era of Adderley Wilson's direction, she began to focus on R&B however she soon switched to jazz and torch music. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley formed a band in 1962. This helped push her up the charts. In 1963, she achieved the biggest success with Tell Me the Truth. Her first job was at the New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's most prestigious club.
