Aaliyah Dana Haaughton soared to fame after releasing her debut album Age Ain't Nothing but an Number in 1994. When she was just 15 years old, the album earned Gold status. The album was part of a group that was greatly inspired by R. Kelly and it put the singer in the limelight. The year 1996 saw her release her sophomore album One In A Million with Jermaine dupri and Timbaland. The album featured the number one hit single If Your girl only had known. With the debut of the album Aaliyah received international recognition as an R&B singer. Aaliyah starred alongside the famous martial artist Jet-Li Romeo Must Die (2000), an action and romance film. Joel Silver spotted her in an awards show. In 2002 she got to play the horror film Queen of the Damned which was based on The Anne Rice novel. The Matrix Sequels saw her as Zee and appeared as a character in The Matrix Reloaded (2003) as well as The Matrix Revolutions that same year. The actress uses Aarti Man as well as Aarti Mahumdar to refer to her professional name. Although she began her acting career in film and TV with a few minor roles her acting career gained speed in the late 2000s. Her other notable projects include Grey's Anatomy, Suits and Leverage. She's also appeared in major commercials of brands such as Volvo which is an international automobile producer. She lives with her family in Los Angeles along with her husband, daughter and pursues her acting profession.
